Report: Apple's California Self-Driving Car Fleet Grows to 27

Apple tree'southward armada of self-driving vehicles has grown.

Bloomberg, citing the California Section of Motor Vehicles, on Thursday reported that Cupertino has registered 24 boosted autonomous Lexus Rx450h sport-utility vehicles in the Golden State since first receiving a allow to exam iii of them in the state in April 2022.

That brings Apple'south California autonomous vehicle test fleet to 27 vehicles. The company reportedly registered those two-dozen boosted autonomous Lexus SUVs from July 2022 through this calendar month.

Apple tree did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for annotate about the expansion, and declined to offer a statement when contacted by Bloomberg.

Though Apple tree is characteristically tight-lipped near new products in its pipeline, CEO Tim Cook in June acknowledged that the company is working on autonomous systems, which could be used for cocky-driving cars.

"Autonomy is something that's incredibly exciting for u.s.a., but we'll see where it takes u.s.a.," Melt said at the time. "We're not really saying, from a production point of view, what we will practice, but we are being straightforward that information technology's a cadre technology that we view as very important."

Those remarks followed rumors in late 2022 that Apple had "drastically scaled back" its and then-called "Project Titan" car squad, cutting hundreds of jobs, and switched its focus to creating software so information technology can potentially partner with existing carmakers, rather than produce its own vehicle.
