Add or edit text & images

You can add images in .png, .jpg, or .gif format. Follow the image usage guidelines.

Add text, headings, or titles to your site

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, click Insert and then Text box.
  3. In the menu, click the Down arrow Down arrowand then choose the text, heading, or title style you want.
  4. Add your text to the box.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Change how your text looks

Format your text

You can change how your text looks, add numbered or bulleted lists, or insert links in new Google Sites.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. At the top right, click Pages, then choose the page you want to edit.
  3. Highlight the text, or click where you want to insert a list or link.
  4. In the menu at the top, choose how you want to format your text.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Tip: You can use an anchor link to link to a specific header or subheader on any published site. Learn how to insert an anchor link.

Add collapsible text

You can add a collapsible text box to save space on your Google Site.

  1. On your computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, click Insert and then Collapsible text.
  3. To add heading and body text, click the text boxes.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Edit or delete collapsible text

  1. On your computer, open your site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click on the heading. This will expand the collapsible text.
  3. To edit, click on the heading or body text box.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Tip: To preview your collapsible text, at the top right, click Preview Preview.

Delete collapsible text

  1. On your computer, open your site in new Google Sites.
  2. To select the text box group, point to the top of the collapsible text box and click the blue outline.
  3. Click Delete groupRemove.

Turn collapsible text off

You can turn collapsible text into regular header and body text.

  1. On your computer, open your site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the collapsible text to expand it.
  3. To select the text box group, point to the top of the collapsible text box and click the blue outline.
  4. Turn off "Collapsible."

To turn a header and body text boxes back into collapsible text:

  1. To select the text box group, point to the top of the header text box and click the blue outline.
  2. Turn on "Collapsible."

Add a section layout

You can change how part of a page looks by using a layout template.

  1. On your computer, go to a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, clickInsert.
  3. Under "Layouts," drag the layout you want to your page.
  4. Add text, images, docs, or videos.
  5. At the top right, clickPublish.

Add a button

You can add a button on your site to take people to another URL or page.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, click Insertand then  Button.
  3. Enter a name. This will appear on the button.
  4. Paste a URL the button should point to, or choose a page on your site.
  5. Click Insert.

Edit or delete a button

Click the button you want to edit or delete.

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the right, click Insert and then Images.
  3. Choose where to get your image.
  4. Choose an image and click Open orSelect.
  5. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Add a logo

Logos appear at the top, next to the site name.

  1. On your computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. In the top right corner, click Settings Settings.
  3. In the "Settings" window, go to Brand Images.
  4. Under the "Logo" section, click Upload or Select.
    • Use an image at least 112 pixels tall.
    • Remove extra whitespace around the logo.
  5. Choose a .jpg, .png, or .gif file and click Open or Select.
  6. At the top right, click Publish.

Add a custom favicon

In a browser, like Chrome or Safari, the favicon is an image that shows next to a site's name at the top. Your site needs to be live to show a favicon.

  1. On your computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. In the top right corner, click Settings Settings.
  3. In the "Settings" window, go to Brand Images.
  4. Under the "Favicon" section, click Upload or Select.
  5. Choose a .jpg, .png, or .gif file.
  6. Choose a file and click Open or Select.
  7. At the top right, click Publish.

Resize a photo

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the photo you want to resize.
  3. Click a dot and adjust the photo to the size you want.
  4. To publish your changes, at the top right, click Publish.

Crop a photo

Group and ungroup objects

You can connect text boxes and images together to move them around as a group.

Group or ungroup text boxes & photos

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. On the same page, add a photo and a text box.
  3. Drag the photo to the top or bottom half of the text box, until a line appears.
  4. To ungroup, click the photo or text box you want to remove and drag it away from the group.

Change the order of grouped items

  1. On a computer, open a site in new Google Sites.
  2. Click the grouped items you want to change.
  3. Click the photo or text box you want to move.
  4. Press the Up, Down, Right, or Left arrow key.

  1. On a computer, open a site in classic Google Sites.
  2. Click where you want to add a link, or highlight the text that you want to link.
  3. In the toolbar, click Link Link.
  4. Select an option.
  5. Click OK.
